Magnificent, antique 1930's ornate Chinese hand-carved, high-relief, four panel teak wood screen divider. Rare piece, originally from Macao and came from my late Grandmother's estate in Saddle River, New Jersey. Truly majestic and beautifully hand-carved large screen, designed in solid and heavy teak wood. Breathtaking in person, substantial and quite imposing in all aspects.
A military battle scene with legendary historical figures and pivotal moments in Chinese history are depicted. This battle scene is not only decorative but, commemorates important moral and historical events. Strategic symbolism includes triumph over adversity and human honor in daily life.
Similar battle scenes are classically heralded as essential design elements by the famous "Ming and Qing" Chinese dynasties. Ornate carved screens such as this one indicated a higher social standing and wealth in Chinese traditions. A truly special and extremely rare piece. Measures 72" tall x 70" wide fully opened and 2" in depth.
