Walasse Ting (born Ding Xiongquan) was a Chinese-American artist with a cosmopolitan spirit who blended the elegance of Eastern tradition with the energy of Pop Art and Western Abstract Expressionism. Nicknamed the "flower thief" for his obsession with beauty and nature, he is renowned for a vibrant and sensual style, dominated by bright colors and fluid brushstrokes.
The work 4 Fishes - 4 Poissons depicts four fish (probably koi carp) swimming among water lilies. It's a perfect example of his artistic maturity, using black Chinese calligraphy strokes to define the forms, then filling them with layers of acrylic in almost neon colors.
