Crafted in France circa 1870, each tall altar candlestick rests on an ornate triangular plinth supported by three scrolled feet decorated with acanthus leaves and rocaille motifs.

Repoussé medallions depicting God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary ornament the three sides of each base, lending the pair exceptional spiritual and artistic character. Above, elongated baluster-form stems are enveloped in beautifully modeled grape clusters, scrolling vines, and foliage—traditional Eucharistic symbols representing the wine of Communion. Broad scalloped bobeches crown the stems and retain their metal prickets, originally designed to secure substantial church candles.

The aged silvered finish has developed a soft, timeworn patina that settles naturally into the repoussé decoration, emphasizing every sculptural detail and creating a striking contrast when illuminated. Presented with tall wax candles, these substantial candlesticks are equally suited to a devotional setting or as statement accents flanking a large mirror, artwork, or fireplace. The pair is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear consistent with its ecclesiastical history.
