Very cool Peruvian folk art ceramic vessel in the shape of a bull. Incan/post-Incan ritual offering vessel placed on rooftops for good luck, fertility & prosperity. I believe that this is an older example based on style. Perhaps 19th century or older. This one has a catalog number painted on the bottom- so likely was once part of a museum collection. Check my other listings to see another!
Examine the pictures to see a small flake on on horn tip and at the fringe on his chest. Overall, this piece is in fantastic shape for it age and use.
Measurements: 4.5” tall, 5” long, approx 2” wide. This is the larger of the two I have.

“Incan Torito de Pucara Conopa
Conopa are small ritual vessels made of stone or clay used in Incan and post Incan rituals for the protection of the home and prosperity for its inhabitants.
The original story of the Torito de Pucara, concerns a humble farmer whose village is suffering from a terrible drought. He brings his only possession, his bull into the mountains to sacrifice in hopes of ending the drought. On the way the bull breaks free and uses its horns to reveal a spring which saves the village.
At the north of Puno , is the town of Pucará, which is recognized for its pottery. The most representative symbol of this area is the Torito de Pucará, which are hung in pairs above the entrances of the houses as a symbol of protection and prosperity. That is why, Pucará is also known as “Tierra del Torito” (Land of the Torito).”
