Large burin engraving on laid paper depicting a refined romantic scene with a young woman captured in the intimate moment of preparing to go to bed.

Engraver: Carlo Antonio Porporati, painter, draftsman, and engraver, born in Volvera on November 18, 1741, died in Turin on June 16, 1816. He studied in Paris as a student of Beauvarlet, entered the Academy in 1773, and in 1793 was commissioned by the King of Naples to open an engraving school.

The work is based on a painting attributed to the school of the Dutch painter Jacob van Loo, an artist known for his scenes of refined sensuality and delicate depictions of the female figure.

The engraving is distinguished by the finesse of the line and the soft modulation of chiaroscuro, typical characteristics of the great eighteenth-century engraving tradition.
Period: late 18th century

The work is completed by a late 19th-century gilded frame with an antique decorated passe-partout, which enhances its refinement and elegance of French style.
