Constructed from solid softwood with a warm patina developed over time, the chest features sliding doors in the upper section and two spacious drawers below, all fitted with original iron hardware. The bold iron corner brackets, handles, and lock plates create a striking contrast to the warm wood and reflect the functional aesthetic typical of Japanese tansu furniture. Originally used by merchants to store documents, valuables, and business records, Choba Tansu were an essential part of traditional Japanese shops and homes. The compact proportions and strong geometric design make this piece highly versatile today, functioning well as a side cabinet, storage chest, or decorative accent piece. with its authentic hardware and aged wood surface, this tansu represents classic early 20th century Japanese craftsmanship.
