Tubular vase with an outwardly curved body resting on a stepped, inwardly drawn ring-shaped base, and a correspondingly shaped, ring-shaped, … Read more Tubular vase with an outwardly curved body resting on a stepped, inwardly drawn ring-shaped base, and a correspondingly shaped, ring-shaped, inwardly drawn mouth; colourless glass with milky yellow-orange powder fusing, overglaze in dark blue and dark violet above, multi-layered, highly etched, polished cornflower decoration against a satin-finished background. Cameo signature 'Gallé' on the lower part of the wall between the plants. Hand-made Cameo Glass: Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
