The Mardi Gras pattern was introduced in the 1890 by Duncan's Sons, George & Company, as an EAPG, Early American pattern Glass favorite. It's successor, the Duncan & Miller Glass Company continued its production until 1920. The pattern was also known in it's early years as Stars and Stripes, an obvious reference to the star-like zipper lines in the pattern, aligned against inclined clear unadorned vertical stripes. For the most part today the pattern is known as the more festive Mardi Gras. This is a massive item which tends to dominate the table housing it, in fact, it makes its presence known in any room housing it. It is a topper which gives "festive" to any gathering.
This exemplar is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or obvious manufacturing failures. All of which makes this bowl and matching stand an extremely rare item.
The bowl is 6.875" tall and has a mouth opening of 14". The stand is 5.25" tall. Giving a magnificent all inclusive height of 12.25, that's right over a foot of height.
This Item is just under 13 pounds of elegant American Glass.
