An exceptional 19th century French Louis XVI style commode sauteuse handcrafted of walnut by skilled artisans near Bordeaux, circa 1880s. Constructed with understated elegance, this beautifully patinated French chest of drawers, also referred to as a "jumping commode" because of its long legs and large drawers, features a rectangular plank top with beveled edge, enriched by delicate fruitwood marquetry.
The subtle sophistication of the façade showcases two short upper drawers over a full length lower drawer, each having a bookmatched, burled walnut front framed with fruitwood marquetry and adorned with original brass swing handles, shaped with gentle curves and decorative round backplates. Raised on tapered legs, the piece embodies the neoclassical restraint of the Louis XVI period.
Its rich, timeworn patina speaks to its age and history. Equally suited for both traditional and modern interiors, this versatile, neoclassical Bordelaise commode is perfect for use as a bedside chest, hall table, or accent piece, bringing both elegance and utility to any room.
