The tapered silhouette closely follows the shape of a traditional coffin, with small metal side pulls and a green fabric-lined interior designed to cradle and protect its contents. Heavy surface wear, rubbed edges, and exposed wood throughout give the piece a strong, time-earned presence consistent with long-term ceremonial or fraternal use.

Rather than funerary use in the literal sense, boxes of this type were commonly associated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), a fraternal organization known for its elaborate ritual objects and symbolic regalia.
