The vessel is entirely hand-formed, with subtle modelling irregularities and structural characteristics that distinguish it clearly from later mass-produced imitations. Richly preserved enamels and gilding remain vibrant, while the elephant-head handles with free-moving rings and the Shishi finial add sculptural sophistication and technical complexity.

The hand-painted “Fuku” mark on the underside follows the calligraphic style associated with the Zoshuntei Sanpo workshop of Hisatomi Yojibei I, connected with the earliest authorised export porcelain from Arita.

More than a decorative object, this piece represents a surviving document of Japan’s transition into international trade and cultural exchange during the final years of the Edo period.
