Handcrafted studio pottery wall plate dated 1991, featuring an expressive abstract resist-glaze design in warm iron brown and cream tones. The octagonal form and bold calligraphic decoration reflect the enduring influence of Japanese Mingei pottery and the late 20th-century American studio craft movement.
Executed in speckled stoneware with a soft satin glaze, this sculptural ceramic piece functions beautifully as wall art or displayed on a stand. The abstract linear motif gives the work a strong graphic presence while preserving the organic irregularity associated with handmade pottery.
A hanging hole to the reverse allows for easy wall installation. At 10.75 inches square, it has substantial visual impact and works especially well in Japandi, organic modern, wabi-sabi, and postmodern interiors.
Signed and dated 1991 to underside with handwritten dedication to “Joy Kaiser.”
