Manufactured by the celebrated American maker Dorgril and firmly authenticated by its crisp, cast-in signature "DORGRIL PATENTED PAT. NO. 1747156", this authenticated hardware piece dates precisely to circa 1930.
This is a premium one-piece pocket assembly unit. The exterior ornamental knocker face and the interior privacy door are permanently connected as a single integrated housing structure. It is designed to slide directly into a pre-cut pocket or mortise opening in a standard entry door, creating a clean, seamless finish on both sides.
The Exterior Component: Displays a beautifully stylized Art Deco meets Tudor Revival scrollwork grill with heavy, fully functional integrated door-knocker ring. Crucially, it retains its original woven wire mesh insect screen, cleanly anchored by the original corner-mount assembly screws. The exterior face preserves an early flat brown protective paint finish.
The Interior Component: Features a gorgeous, highly tactile hammered pewter/aluminium finish with matching scrolled relief work. The privacy hatch door swings smoothly on intact heavy barrel hinges and locks firmly via its original sculpted thumb latch.
Material Composition: Hand-cast using Dorigril's specialized lightweight, white-metal aluminum alloy, providing excellent inherent rust resistance and crisp textured detail.
