A glamorous vintage ceramic ashtray featuring a sculptural reclining panther finished in a richly textured weeping gold glaze. The molten, irregular metallic finish gives this piece the wonderfully dramatic look associated with mid-century decorative ceramics and Hollywood Regency décor.
The elongated large cat rests along the edge of an oval dish, creating a striking sculptural silhouette. Originally designed as an ashtray, today it makes an equally fabulous trinket dish, jewelry catchall, barware accent, or decorative object styled on a cocktail table, desk, bookshelf, or bar cart.
The underside is marked “Antique Reproduction,” “E.R.” and “040.” The “Antique Reproduction” marking indicates that the design was produced as a reproduction of an earlier decorative style rather than being an antique-period piece itself. Maker is unidentified.
