A rare and beautifully preserved example of early 20th‑century Indian export craftsmanship, this hand‑carved rosewood snake tripod stand has remained in the same family since the 1930s. Carved from a single solid block of genuine rosewood, the stand unfolds into an interlocking three‑serpent form, demonstrating remarkable technical skill and artistic precision.

Each of the three serpentine legs features fully carved heads with defined ears, noses, and feet, along with inlaid bone eyes and leaf‑shaped bone inlays set into the top of each head. These head inlays are a distinctive feature found only on higher‑grade pre‑WWII pieces.

The body of each serpent is decorated with 26 hand‑cut bone inlays (13 on the upper surface and 13 on the underside of the chest). Each inlay is individually carved and fitted into a precisely cut recess, confirming the piece’s authenticity and early origin. The symmetry and consistency of the inlay work reflect a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in later reproductions.
