This antique Pennsylvania German Fraktur Taufschein, a hand-colored birth and baptismal certificate, was printed by Theo. F. Scheffer of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, dating to 1859. The certificate records the birth of Simon Peter on April 30, 1859, in Washington Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania, to parents Samuel Boyer and Elisabeth Glickhli. He was baptized by the Rev. Ellenmojer.
The vibrant hand-coloring highlights the traditional Fraktur motifs, including two winged angels, one holding a wreath, the other a bird. The composition also features an American eagle with the 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' motto, and charming depictions of birds perched on fruiting branches, along with various floral arrangements. The borders are intricately patterned. Spiritual verses are inscribed at the top and bottom of the central text block. The certificate is presented within a simple wooden frame.
