Federal Period bow front chest of drawers in mahogany, ca. 1820. It features beaded drawer fronts, oval brasses, whalebone escutcheons and French bracket feet. This style became popular in the United States as makers here began producing copies of imported chests fashioned in the new style of English designer Thomas Sheraton. His pieces were often more delicate and neoclassical than the heavy Chippendale forms that had dominated much of the 18th century.
Top measures 40" wide, 21.25" deep at center "bow". Dresser is 42.25" wide at the feet.
