A finely decorated Japanese cloisonné enamel vase dating to the Meiji period, distinguished by its elegant proportions and soft green enamel ground. The form is slender and well-balanced, rising to a gently flared neck and finished with a simple metal rim.
The body is adorned with a naturalistic scene featuring a swallow in flight among flowering branches and foliage. The composition is fluid and thoughtfully spaced, allowing the motifs to breathe across the surface rather than appearing densely packed. The bird is rendered with careful attention to detail, particularly in the articulation of the wings and elongated tail, while the surrounding blossoms and leaves are executed in a harmonious palette of muted tones.
The green ground is especially noteworthy, offering a more subdued and refined visual effect compared to the brighter turquoise tones often seen in Meiji export cloisonné. This softer coloration enhances the naturalistic quality of the design and gives the piece a more sophisticated overall presence.
Encircling the neck and foot are finely worked decorative borders composed of stylized floral motifs, providing structure and contrast to the open field of the main body. The enamel surface is smooth and even, reflecting a controlled and competent workshop hand.
Condition is good overall, with minor surface wear consistent with age and handling. The enamel remains stable and the decoration is well preserved.
A graceful and visually balanced example of Meiji period cloisonné, offering a refined palette and elegant naturalistic design, well suited for collectors and interior display alike
