A well-matched pair of Japanese cloisonné enamel vases from the Meiji period, each finely decorated on a vibrant turquoise ground and bearing impressed signatures to the underside. The elegant ovoid bodies rise to slender, tapering necks, creating a refined and highly displayable form.
The surfaces are adorned with naturalistic floral compositions, including cascading wisteria, maple leaves, and seasonal blossoms, all rendered in a harmonious palette of soft greens, whites, iron reds, and subtle purples. The designs are thoughtfully arranged, allowing the motifs to flow organically across the body, rather than appearing rigid or overly compartmentalized. This compositional restraint gives the pair a more sophisticated visual presence compared to more densely ornamented export wares.
Encircling the neck is a decorative band of repeating geometric and floral motifs, executed with precise wirework and consistent enamel application. The contrast between this structured upper register and the more fluid naturalistic scenes below reflects a well-developed workshop aesthetic typical of quality late Meiji production.
Both vases retain their original copper bases with impressed marks, further supporting their period authenticity. The enamel surfaces remain vibrant, with good clarity and minimal loss to the decorative elements.
Condition is overall good and stable. Each vase exhibits a hairline crack to the neck, with one example having undergone professional restoration. The repairs have been sensitively executed and are not visually intrusive in normal display, though they are present and should be noted for accuracy.
Despite these condition considerations, the pair retains strong decorative appeal and presents exceptionally well, particularly when displayed together. The combination of elegant form, vivid color, and refined floral subject matter makes this an attractive and accessible example of Meiji period Japanese cloisonné.
A visually striking pair, ideal for collectors or interior settings where color, symmetry, and classic Japanese design are desired
