Gayle Fichtinger is a New Hampshire–based ceramic artist known for sculptural works and ink drawings inspired by nature, scholars stones, and Yixing ceramics. Raised on a dairy farm in Minnesota, she earned her MFA in Ceramics from Arizona State University and later taught at both Plymouth State University and Savannah College of Art and Design.

Her work has been widely exhibited and is included in the collections of institutions including the Tucson Museum of Art, Racine Art Museum, and DeCordova Museum. Fichtinger’s work has also been featured in publications such as Ceramics Monthly, American Craft, and The Boston Globe

Description:
Unusual vintage studio pottery sculpture featuring two spotted melons resting beside a long cutting knife on a deeply textured board. Hand painted in earthy charcoal, ochre, and muted blue tones with a wonderfully sculptural, almost primitive feel to the composition.

Purchased from the home of an artist who collected exceptionally unusual pieces, this was originally acquired in Philadelphia and has a true one-of-a-kind presence. The surface texture and hand-worked details give it a very organic, artistic quality that feels somewhere between folk art and studio sculpture.

Terracotta construction. Displays beautifully on a shelf, console, or stacked into a pottery collection.

Great vintage condition with age-appropriate character and wear.
