Mostly associated with the Boston area where he went to school and painted his subjects. His best known for his portrays of every day life around the Boston area for African-Americans as well as his religious themes, such as this one. He has had Auction results as high as $20,000 for a drawing. He was called the dean of African-American artists. The medium on this is either crayon or colored pencil it’s hard to tell. It is so powerful with the male image stretched out in front of the cross and the light coming through the windows. It assigned lower right and also titled, but I cannot decipher it. The paper measures 9 inches high by 6 inches wide. The image is in very good condition. See less
