This antique Japanese kimono tansu dates from the late Meiji period, around c. 1910. The piece has a low, horizontal silhouette with two spacious drawers and a separate compartment on the right with a hinged door. Behind this door are two smaller hidden drawers.
Dimensions: height 51 cm, width 91 cm, depth 41 cm.
The chest has a warm dark-brown patina with visible wood grain, natural ageing and subtle signs of use. The black metal fittings, corner pieces, lock plates and elegant handles give the piece a strong graphic character.
Kimono tansu were traditionally used for storing kimono, textiles and personal belongings. Today, this piece works beautifully as a low sideboard, compact storage cabinet or display for ceramics, plants, books, ikebana or other objects.
Thanks to its low height, calm form and old Japanese hardware, this tansu brings warmth and character to a minimalist, natural or eclectic contemporary interior.
In very good antique condition, with signs of use and natural ageing consistent with age and function.
Solid, functional and exceptionally decorative.
