This vintage Japanese home pharmacy probably dates from the 1940s–1950s. The small box has a wooden body covered with red paper and black Japanese calligraphy, with a simple cardboard drawer and a small metal handle on the front.
Dimensions: height 12.5 cm, width 19 cm, depth 23 cm.
The inscriptions refer to medicine and the Japanese pharmaceutical trade. The top includes references to “quality medicines” and “Etchū Toyama”, a region historically known for its travelling medicine sellers. The front also mentions “Wanpīku – for colds”, together with addresses and telephone numbers from the original supplier.
The red surface, black typography and visible wear give the object a strong graphic character. Soft fading, patina and age-related marks make it not only functional, but also highly decorative.
Today, it works beautifully as a compact storage object for pens, desk accessories, small papers, jewellery or personal items. On a desk, shelf or cabinet, it brings a unique Japanese vintage accent to a stylish contemporary interior.
In beautifully weathered vintage condition, with signs of use, patina and wear consistent with age and original function.
