A beautiful oil painting on panel by the great early 20th-century artist oreste albertini.
in this significant work, his ability to capture the calm, meditative atmosphere of the mountain landscapes of his native lombardy reaches its zenith.
the reassuring gentleness that this small masterpiece inspires is due to the harmony of the colours that inform every element; from the church and figures in the foreground, to the placid surface of a stream in the middle ground, to the imposing magnificence of the dolomites silhouetted against the background.

oreste albertini (certosa di pavia, march 28, 1887 – besano, july 7, 1953) was an italian painter. He attended the civic school of painting in pavia, and at the age of thirteen he became an apprentice fresco painter with cesare maroni. He began his art studies in pavia, after attending the brera academy and the umanitaria in milan with borsani and lorenzoli, and at the umanitaria with luigi rossi and giovanni buffa. For several years he practiced painting as an amateur, without making it a profession. In 1921 he moved to besano, where he spent his entire life. He was partly a craftsman and partly a laborer until 1921, then, in 1923, he presented a triptych at the brera national exhibition: in val ceresio, in 1924 with grignetta, and in 1925 with sole di settembre. He also set up a studio in milan, where he participated in the permanente exhibitions for several years. After a debut as a landscape painter with a divisionist influence, he also occasionally painted figures. With a highly personal technique, he captured in his work the beauty, emotion, flavor, and life that reality inspires. In his later years, he specialized in painting landscapes of the dolomites and the varese countryside, particularly besano and viconago. His works are preserved in the civic museums of pavia and the galleria d'arte moderna in milan (covoni in moena). His finest works from the first decade of his career are: in val ceresio (triptych), owned by locatelli; snowfall in val marchirolo; sunny joy; sunset over the generoso; and a beautiful day in march.
