This piece is a modern reproduction of the original artwork that was produced in the 1950s. The print comes framed with a simple modern plastic frame and a glass front. We have left the piece as it was found, allowing the new owner the option to update it to a more contemporary frame if desired. The artwork itself is in lovely, well-kept condition.

Warhol's illustration of these two cats is drawn from his 1954 artist's book titled "Twenty-Five Cats Named Sam and One Blue Pussy." The original whimsical ink drawings were hand-colored by Warhol and his friends, using bright and vivid watercolor dyes that often showcased the cats in striking shades of purple, blue, and red. During the 1950s, Warhol and his mother kept numerous cats in their Manhattan apartment, with nearly all of them named Sam, except for one special cat named Hester. See less
