A traditional French poissonniere from circa 1900, adorned with a heraldic display flanked by passant lion supporters. The lions are, in turn, flanked by two fleur de lys, while the opposite side of the cylindrical fish poacher is graced with five semé de lis. Before the advent of stoves and rangetops, the poissonniere would have been used to cook fish over the fire, with the protruding section of the iron handle being used to hang from a crémaillère.
