Excellent vintage condition. No damage. This is a vintage wizard gnome sculpture, titled “The Wiz.” Gnomes are the quintessential mystical creatures with a deep history in European folklore and Renaissance-era science.

It was created by American artist, Dr. Tom Clark for Cairn Studios. He used hand-cast resin mixed with pecan shells to create a distinct wooden appearance, texture and dark color. The Wiz is a low edition piece genuine, early-edition "The Wiz" (#52) from 1983. Cairn Studio considers each creation a "limited edition collectible."

Clark often used coins from various countries to help tell a gnome's story. The "living story" of The Wiz portrays him as a kindly wizard who spends his time sharing magical wisdom with other Woodspirits in the forest. The foreign coin you see on the base is specifically an English coin. In his story, Clark placed it there to honor The Wiz's "patron saint," Merlin the Magician. It is intended to represent good fortune and blessings for the owner

According to the story written by artist Dr. Clark, The Wiz is a delightful fellow who is best known for two things: The Wiz frequently hands out recipes for home remedies to help his fellow forest creatures; and when he isn't busy as a healer, he enjoys telling ghost stories to the other gnomes.

The Wiz is accompanied by other forest creatures that include a salamander and frog. He also added an Egyptian scarab to serve as a "good luck" protector.

Tom Clark's name and the name of the gnome is etched into the figurine with the date and edition number.
