Hand-carved circa 1870, the rectangular panels feature a ground of caramel-colored burl walnut paired with dark brown oak carvings and ebonized embellishments that include thinly molded moldings that surround the hunt trophies.

One of the panels depicts a hare surmounting an ebonized hunting horn and a swirling oak branch dotted with acorns. The other plaque has a pheasant overlaid across a grapevine flush with ebonized grape clusters. Both animals are suspended upside down by an ebonized crinkled ribbon bow, which was a common motif in European art and furniture of the 19th century that celebrated successful bounties. Today, they can be hung as decorative wall sculptures or integrated into cabinetry as doors. See less
