Exceptional old master drawing in black chalk on laid paper, depicting a dramatic allegorical scene. The central figure is an elegant standing woman in classical draperies with a wreath in her hair, holding aloft a chalice (goblet) from which radiate rays of divine light. In the foreground are three figures: two reclining figures wrapped in drapery and one additional figure beside them. On the verso (back side) there is an inscription “RENI”, a very common practice in Reni’s workshop and among his followers to indicate attribution. The paper shows all the characteristics of 17th-century production – appropriate patina, texture, and natural ageing, confirming the period of origin.
Provenance: Formerly in a European private collection, acquired on the Vienna antiques market (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
