The subject is a slender young woman with tousled black hair in a strapless blue dress, her strong features unflinching and concentrated toward the right of the scene. Behind her is a curious assortment of objects: a carousel horse, a blue vase with flowers, a lidded jar and two framed pieces of art above the bed that beg for a narrative to be strung together in order to tell her story.
