A wonderfully atmospheric pair of antique, cast-iron bookends featuring reclining, long-haired dogs resting peacefully before ornate manor gates. This is a rare set: I've seen only one other.

Rich with Tudor Revival and Gothic Revival character, the sculptural design evokes the romance of old English estates and library interiors, with decorative architectural gates rising behind the sleeping dogs. A warm bronzed finish highlights the texture of the casting, from the feathered fur and softly expressive faces to the detailed gate and stonework motifs.

Compact in scale yet visually substantial, they work beautifully styled with books, on shelves, or as sculptural decorative accents. The reverse retains the original textured casting pattern, and each bookend is marked with the mold number “75.” Likely American, early 20th century. See less
