The scene depicts the moment Jacob first meets the young Rachel and falls in love with her, set in an evocative rural landscape with flocks of sheep, a farmhouse, and surrounding figures. The sacred narrative is here reinterpreted in a Baroque style, intense and sensual, with the female figure as the protagonist, captured in an eloquent gesture that alludes to Jacob's destiny, destined to work for seven years in Laban's service to win her hand in marriage. The work shows clear influences from Roman painting culture, particularly Carlo Maratta, combined with the Genoese tradition of Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione (il Grechetto). The stylistic characteristics, the quality of execution, and the physiognomic models, especially in Rachel's face, allow the painting to be attributed to the Genoese painter Gio Raffaele Badaracco (1648–1726).Badaracco, who trained between Genoa and Rome, created important decorative cycles and paintings of both sacred and profane subjects, distinguishing himself for his narrative style rich in movement, pathos, and chromatic refinement.Dimensions:149x129 (with frame)125x99 (without frame) See less
