This exceptional amphora vase is attributed to the circle of flavio poli for seguso vetri d’arte and represents the prestigious etruscan revival series of the 1960s. Poli, considered a visionary of sculptural glass forms, used the 'a scavo' finishing technique to bridge the gap between italian antiquity and modernity. Of particular note is the masterful execution of the organically curved handles in clear 'cristallo' glass, which provide a brilliant contrast to the archaic, mineral texture of the body. The absence of a cut pontil mark is a hallmark of this special technique, resulting in an authentic, fully patinated surface, achieved with such perfection only in murano's leading kilns.
this impressive object is an outstanding example of the legendary murano glass art of the 1960s. The vase captivates with its unique ‘a scavo’ technique (italian for ‘excavated’), which gives the glass a fascinating, matte, and earthy texture reminiscent of ancient archaeological finds.
the rough, granular body forms an exciting and elegant contrast to the deep blue, high-gloss neck and the masterfully crafted handles made of clear glass. This combination of archaic feel and modern lines is characteristic of world-class manufacturers like seguso vetri d’arte and reflects the innovative spirit of venetian glassworks during this era.
due to the special ‘a scavo’ manufacturing technique, in which the glass is chemically treated and refired during production, the base has a characteristic unpolished texture, underscoring the authenticity of this artisanal process.
the vase's base retains its characteristic unpolished texture, further emphasizing the authenticity of this handcrafted process. Details:
