This striking 11" tall Japanese porcelain vase features a dramatic deep cobalt blue ground covered in an all-over gold seigaiha … Read more This striking 11" tall Japanese porcelain vase features a dramatic deep cobalt blue ground covered in an all-over gold seigaiha (overlapping wave scale) pattern — a classic motif symbolizing good fortune and protection in Japanese culture. Set against this background are hand-painted flowers (pink and white peonies, delicate cherry blossoms, and morning glories) and pale green and yellow birds in flight. White dividing lines section the cylindrical body into elegant vertical panels. The neck and rim are finished in white with a fine gold border. The foot measures 3.5" in diameter and is an unglazed ring. The base is stamped with a red rectangular mark identifying it as an export piece from the mid-to-late 20th century (circa 1960s–1980s).
