A richly detailed Zanzibar trade chest, showcasing the iconic East African–Arab craftsmanship that made these trunks prized throughout the Indian Ocean trade routes. The chest features dense brass studwork, arranged in geometric and floral motifs across the front and top panels. The dark wood body provides a strong contrast to the warm metalwork, giving the piece a commanding, old‑world.
It has decorative corner brackets, large central boss, and rows of domed studs that form the characteristic protective patterning. The proportions are classic: low, wide, and substantial, making it suitable as an entry chest, coffee table, or statement storage piece.
