Quistgaard employed a traditional coopering technique to construct the body from solid teak staves — the same ancient craft used for fine barrels — resulting in a form that is both structurally ingenious and quietly beautiful.
The slightly tapered cylindrical body is banded with turned rings and topped with a fitted lid bearing a raised circular handle with a distinctive concentric-ring profile. The original black plastic liner is intact and functional. The warm honey-and-chocolate teak grain deepens with age and patina, giving this example an especially handsome character.
Stamped on the underside with the Dansk mark: Dansk Designs, Denmark, IHQ — the initials of Jens Harald Quistgaard.
