This retro piece is a vintage duck-shaped ashtray or trinket dish made by California Originals-marked "Cal Org USA" with an "S-36" mold number. A mid-century vivid red/orange interior glazing known as Fat Lava.
Maker: California Originals Pottery
A "flying duck" form featuring a textured brown body with a woodgrain-style glaze on the exterior and a vibrant, contrasting interior glaze. Originally designed as an ashtray, featuring cigarette rests integrated into the tail feathers, but it is also frequently used as a trinket tray or kitchen spoon rest.
