This print depicts a … Read more A serigraph print, titled "Flores (Flowers)," after a work by Mexican artist Alfredo Ramon Martinez (1887-1946). This print depicts a colorful flower arrangement in an earthenware jug sitting on a patterned tablecloth. While the original work was done by Alfredo Ramon Martinez, his wife, Maria Sodi de Ramos Martinez, created this print. In a blue and gold tone frame, this piece is signed in the print to the upper right by the artist and signed in pencil by Maria Sodi de Ramos Martinez, his wife, who completed the print, in the upper right.

Born in Monterrey, Nuevo León to a successful trading merchant, Alfredo Ramon Martinez grew up helping out with the family business. He began his career in the arts very early on, winning a prize for a portrait of the governor of Monterrey when he was just nine years old. He went on to study art at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. He has been dubbed "the Father of Mexican Modernism" and is known for his poetic watercolor scenesof Mexican life. To this day, his work in shown in exhibits and collections around the world. See less
