Subject and Style: The pictorial decoration celebrates Renaissance-style portraiture: the centerpiece features the noble profile of a warrior or leader in helmet and armor, proudly encased within a triumphal laurel wreath. The wide perimeter band is entirely covered with an elaborate, geometric scale (or feather) motif, intersected by a rigorous polychrome cross.

Material and Finish: The piece is crafted from solid, heavy terracotta. The front is masterfully glazed with majolica and hand-painted in vibrant shades of yellow, green, and blue. The back of the plate, left unfinished, reveals the natural porosity and charming dark patina of the period terracotta; it also features a sturdy metal hanging hook embedded in the frame.
