This painting is the … Read more Antique Oil Painting Portrait after Franz Hals "Portrait of a Gentleman of the de Wolff family". This painting is the artist A. Hiller's interpretation of the original, which was painted in 1643; the sitter noted as possibly Joost de Wolff born around 1576, who appears in our version to be quite a character.

Signed lower left A. Hiller and dated lower left, 1895 or 1905 (partially obscured by the frame). The painting is in excellent condition, possibly previously cleaned/conserved. The frame appears original, with the same degree of oxidation across the stretchers and frame back.

Frame measurement 29.75" height, 25.5" width, 2.75" frame depth. The painting out of the frame measures 24" x 20".

The frame is likely original, with the same degree of oxidation across the stretchers and frame. Fine quality, crisply cast gesso details of floral garlands and cross hatched backgrounds with parcel gilt liner frame. The frame is in excellent condition with minor gesso loss as shown. See less
