Sourced in Provence, France, this late 19th century French provincial fruitwood table reflects a restrained, functional interpretation of traditional rural forms, with a balanced and quietly architectural presence. Crafted from solid fruitwood, the top is constructed with a mitered frame surrounding hand-planed planks, a more deliberate and refined approach that elevates the otherwise simple provincial silhouette. The surface shows a well-developed, naturally aged patina with visible grain movement, tonal variation, softened edges, and age-related wear throughout. Shrinkage lines, small marks, and irregularities are consistent with age and traditional hand construction, contributing to the depth and authenticity of the piece. The table has been structurally revised in our workshop to ensure it is solid and stable for daily use. The wood has been carefully cleaned and finished with a hand-applied wax, preserving the natural tone while enhancing warmth and character. Two drawers are integrated at either end of the apron, each constructed with hand-cut dovetail joinery and fitted with metal ring pulls. The base features turned legs connected by an H-form stretcher with a shaped central support, giving the table a grounded, architectural presence. Pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery is visible at the leg connections, reinforcing its traditional hand-built construction. Well suited for use as a dining table, kitchen table, or center table, the proportions and integrated drawers also allow it to function effectively as a writing table or desk within a range of interiors.
