With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques proudly offers this exceptional antique display cabinet. This particular variety of cabinet is the perfect solution to serve as a showcase in an area with limited space. The design of the cabinet is modeled after the traditional stacking barrister bookcases and legal office files which became popular towards the end of the 19th century. We believe that this cabinet was first made for a haberdashery or general store for the retail display of clothing. It is also possible this piece was intended to serve as a specimen cabinet to showcase any manner of intriguing objects or works of art.
The cabinet consists of four primary sections which include a removeable top, two primary display sections, and a base with four legs that fasten to the frame with standard wing nuts. Each of the display sections are complete with two doors that open to access the full interior along with adjusting system holes so a shelf may be added at a later time. The sides are raised panel design and constructed of a bold section of figured tiger oak grain. We note that the right side has a drip line of varnish which we decided to leave alone as to not disturb the area that surrounds it. The interior display sections are lined with a slotted or grooved board that allows thin vertical partitions to slide in and out as to create adjustable sized compartments for individualized storage display. This lining is a later addition which we left alone to give the next owner of this cabinet the option of using this added feature.
The display cabinet measures 33" wide x 17 1/2" deep x 50 1/4" tall. The interior storage capacity of each display section measures 31 1/2" wide x 16" deep x 13" tall.
