Perfetto, con queste foto si può essere ancora più precisi e credibili --- Originally conceived by Gio Ponti for the VI Triennale di Milano in 1936, this set of eight dining chairs was reissued by Montina in the 1970s, preserving the poetic force and formal clarity of the original design. The sculptural backrests in curved plywood evoke a rhythmic, almost calligraphic gesture — airy and expressive. The solid beech frames reflect the high-quality craftsmanship of Montina’s production, combining elegance with structural integrity. The chairs have undergone a significant restoration, including a full anti-woodworm treatment, as they were originally in quite compromised condition. As visible in the photos, some marks and traces of the restoration remain: small filled areas, darker streaks, and subtle surface irregularities, particularly along the backrests and edges. These are not defects, but rather honest signs of age and careful conservation, contributing to the authentic character and historical depth of the pieces. The iconic silhouette remains intact, including the refined cut-out back design and the delicate transitions between curves and joints — elements that highlight Ponti’s mastery of form. The triangular wooden detail emerging subtly from the front of the seat recalls Ponti’s Superleggera, a quiet yet deliberate reference within his design language. Despite their light appearance, the chairs are structurally solid and well-balanced. The seats have been fully reupholstered in a soft off-white semi-velvet fabric, washable and durable, and carefully re-padded to ensure comfort while respecting the original proportions. A rare opportunity to acquire a complete and historically important set, where restoration has been approached with respect and transparency — preserving both usability and the poetic imperfection that gives these chairs their soul. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
