The Concept: Aerospace Skeletal Design
The Flyer bookshelf, designed by Dario Nasuti, is a visionary tribute to the dawn of aviation. Inspired by the internal structures and fuselages of early aircraft, Flyer brings the 'Invisible Architecture' of the hangar into the contemporary living space. It celebrates the raw beauty of a plane’s skeleton—where every curve and intersection is dictated by the laws of physics and aerodynamics. It is a functional landscape of solids and voids that transforms a wall into a rhythmic, industrial flight.
Handcrafted Engineering in Parma
Each Flyer unit is handcrafted in the historic heart of the Parma mechanical district, Italy. This region is world-renowned for its high-precision engineering, and the bookshelf is a testament to that heritage. The piece is constructed entirely from high-gauge iron sheet metal. The iconic circular and elliptical shapes are achieved through professional calendering, a technique that requires extreme artisanal mastery to maintain perfect proportions in such a heavy material. Every joint is hand-welded and meticulously finished to create a seamless, organic silhouette that belies the cold, industrial strength of the iron.
Modular Innovation & Stability
Flyer is a masterpiece of smart engineering. To ensure safe global transport and ease of installation, the unit is divided into 4 distinct modular blocks. These blocks are designed to be reassembled with surgical precision using a hidden internal bolting system, making the joints virtually invisible. Unlike many large-scale metal units, Flyer is completely freestanding. Its integrated base and low center of gravity provide exceptional stability, allowing it to stand as a monumental, self-supporting sculpture in any room without the need for wall anchoring.
The Flyer bookshelf is more than a storage unit; it is a durable piece of functional art, a celebration of Italian metallurgy, and a permanent structural intervention for the most exclusive contemporary interiors. Made to order (4-8 wks). Shipped in 4 modules for safety. Fully freestanding/self-supporting. Hardware included; professional assembly recommended.
