This large scale vintage glass dame jeanne was designed to store and transport wine in France. The term dame-jeanne is also known in English as a demijohn. The term translates literally to "Lady Jane". According to a popular 14th-century legend, Queen Joanna I of Naples took refuge from a storm in a glassblower’s workshop in Provence, France. Intrigued by the craft, she attempted to blow glass herself, but blew so hard that she created an unusually large, bulbous bottle. The humble artisan named the vessel "Dame-Jeanne" in her honor. Measures 17" round at the widest point and 25.5" in height with the bottle top measuring 3" round. Makes for a lovely home or bar accent or can be beautiful to collect special wine corks or even wired for an oversized lamp. Two currently available and these are without chips or cracks.
