A highly decorative coloured print depicting the great dagon pagoda and adjacent scenery on the eastern road from rangoon, after the celebrated early 19th-century view by lieutenant joseph moore. The original composition was first published in london in 1825 by kingsbury & co. And thomas clay, as part of moore’s important series of burmese topographical views, “eighteen views taken at and near rangoon.”
the scene shows the monumental great dagon pagoda, now known as the shwedagon pagoda in yangon, myanmar, rising above a richly detailed landscape of palm trees, buddhist stupas, temple structures, tropical vegetation, and traditional burmese rooftops. A european figure in the foreground adds scale and historical atmosphere, placing the work firmly within the tradition of early 19th-century british travel and colonial-era printmaking.
beautifully composed and finely hand-coloured, the print combines historical importance with strong decorative appeal. The soft blue sky, golden pagoda forms, terracotta rooftops, and lush green vegetation create a refined and atmospheric image, ideal for collectors of asian antiques, burmese history, buddhist architecture, colonial travel prints, antique aquatints, grand tour-style works, and orientalist topographical views.
presented in a burgundy-toned frame with layered matting, this piece has a warm and elegant presence suitable for a library, study, gallery wall, collector’s interior, boutique hotel, or refined eclectic space.
