About the Collection (L'Estampe Moderne)
L'Estampe Moderne appeared in 1897-1899 as a series of 24 monthly fascicles, each containing 4 original lithographs, printed by Parisian Imprimerie Champenois. Many accomplished European Art Nouveau painters contributed works to this publication, which contained only Original prints invented and produced especially for this collection. The publication was edited by Charles Masson and H. Piazza. Each issue came in a paper cover bearing an original lithograph by Alphonse Mucha.
Each lithograph was accompanied by a tissue containing the details (title of the artwork, name of the artist, etc.) and a short text by a well-known author who inspired the artist (this one being by Henri de Régnier).

About the artist
Lucien Hector Monod was a French painter, initially associated with the Symbolist movement, and also a draftsman and engraver.
The son of Gustave Louis Monod and Louise Catherine Armand-Delille, Lucien Monod came from a family of Swiss origin and of Reformed tradition, established in France since 1808. The Monod family included many pastors: Lucien was the first to devote himself to the arts. from 1886 to 1889, he attended the Académie Julian, notably the studio of Puvis de Chavannes.
from 1891, he joined the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français. In 1899, La Voix des sources, a lithograph based on a poem by Henri de Régnier, was published in L'Estampe moderne. He also contributed to the art magazine The Studio.
Lucien Monod is the author of a major series of studies on the print market published by the art publisher Albert Morancé from 1920 to 1931 in 9 volumes: Aide-mémoire de l'amateur et du professionnel: le prix des estampes, ancienne et moderne, prix reçues en ventes - suites et états, biographies et bibliographies. It includes, among other things, one of the first monographs on the engravings of Félix Vallotton.
___
from the text on the tissue paper, by Henri de Régnier:
Me voici sur le bord de la fontaine claire
Et mes cheveux qui vont s’écrouler en arrière
Mêleront leur cascade d’or à l’eau d’argent,
Qui hantent la forêt ou, Sirènes, la mer ;
