The wooden doll has a … Read more Small vintage sōsaku kokeshi titled “Mebae”, referring to sprouting or first growth, by Miyashita Hajime. The wooden doll has a compact, softly rounded silhouette with a deep burgundy hairstyle and a small red hair ornament. The face is delicately detailed with fine lash lines and a subtle red mouth.

Dimensions: height 15 cm, diameter 6 cm.

The body is decorated with red floral motifs and dark leaves, combined with a colourful kimono detail in red, green and yellow. The warm wood tone, glossy finish and playful floral decoration give this small kokeshi a charming yet refined presence.

A beautiful collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, perfect as a subtle Japanese interior accent or as an addition to a kokeshi collection.
