Schneider Art Nouveau Chandelier This is a stunning example of Verrerie Schneider work, likely dating from 1910–1930, the glasshouse’s most celebrated period. The Glassmaker Charles Schneider (1881–1953) founded the Verrerie Schneider in Épinay-sur-Seine, France, around 1913. He trained under Émile Gallé and Daum before establishing his own workshop, and became renowned for his deeply colored, marbled art glass. Glass The shades display Schneider’s signature “verre marbré” (marbled glass) technique — orange, amber, and white pigments fused and swirled within the glass paste during blowing, creating that characteristic cloudy, flame-like effect. The larger central coupe shows a more translucent white with amber mottling. This coloring was often referred to commercially as “Charder” (a portmanteau of Charles Schneider). Metalwork The bronze or gilt-bronze frame is classic Art Nouveau — the sinuous curved arms, the beaded ring collar, and the foliate decorative links on the chain suspension all point to high-quality foundry work typical of the period. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
