He was the son of gardener Karl Arvid Linder and Edla Widström, and in 1944 he married Gerd Eva Pollack. He began his training as a decorator at Oskar Lundqvist’s Decoration School in Stockholm in 1937, but largely developed as a self-taught artist. Early in his career he worked in advertising while painting part-time, but from 1946 he devoted himself fully to art. Linder’s artistic output includes still lifes, portraits, figure compositions, and landscapes, often inspired by the Swedish coastline and the Uppsala region. His style carries a modernist character with a light Cubist influence, simplifying forms and color planes, executed in oil, pastel, and watercolor. He also undertook decorative commissions, such as the oil painting “Från Syd till Nord” for the L.E.A. company in Uppsala, and mural works for hospitals in Sundsvall and Uddevalla. Sven Linder exhibited in solo shows in Sala, Uppsala, Borlänge, and Uddevalla, and participated in group exhibitions with the Uppland Art Association, including their touring exhibitions in the 1950s. His works are represented in public spaces and private collections in Sweden. See less
